Cassis American Brasserie

I always get to see my best friends' mother and father when I visit st. Pete, however this time the four of us went to lunch and it was a true treat. I couldn't ask for better company or ambience. Cassis is located on Beach Drive downtown St. Pete and across the way you have a beautiful view of the bay. It was a perfect winter day, cooler temps no humidity and perfect blue skies, basically the weather that makes you want to move back to Florida.

Danielle's mom, Jen is a total foodie (apple doesn't fall from the tree) and when she recommends something you know it's going to be good. She had been there before and ordered the Grilled Romaine Salad and had been craving it ever since. Now I know why!! It was perfectly dressed with Caesar and topped with shaved parmesan. The romaine was still crunchy and the charred bites were the best. This salad was truly delicious.

The Kobe Beef Burgers were good, tender and topped with cheddar cheese, sprouts and pickled jalapenos.

The smoked salmon was bland, lacking depth. It was smoked salmon, butter lettuce with goat cheese and capers drizzled with dark balsamic vinegar. The balsamic was odd, a champagne vinegar would have been better and I would have added a hard boiled egg and onions. I would not order that again.

The Baked Brie was good but can you ever mess up Brie? It was served in a caramel apple sauce with toast. The toast was very hard, the kind that tears the roof of your mouth when you chew, not good!!

The grilled Chicken Breast was not your average chicken sandwich. It had a nice twist with melted provolone, baby arugula, topped with a stone fruit vinaigerette, open face over a gluten-free bun. It was tasty! I ordered the braised Brussells Sprouts as my side. They were tasty, especially the bites with bacon.

Overall, I think Cassis is a nice place to dine in downtown St. Pete. I feel like if you pick and choose the right menu items, it is a winner. I will definitely look forward to having that Grilled Romaine Lettuce the next time I am in town.

Tip - Go on a day when it's not so hot, bring a doggie or two. They have a dog menu, love that!!

Price range (lunch) - $13-$16 for sandwiches and quesadillas.
